Money in the Classroom
Banking Basics
Banking Basics was designed to help students understand what life looks like after high school. Students walk through the three most important steps to achieving financial independence - having an active checking & savings account, being responsible with your money & budgeting.
After the presentation, students participate in a budgeting simulation. Students are given a career at random - graphic designer, nurse, MIG welder or even a pet groomer - including total student loan debt, monthly payment and monthly income. They then make life choices to fit their income including what car to drive, purchasing insurance and saving for retirement. After students budget their money, they are given an unexpected event card where they could win or lose money.
